This policy explains what The Daily Lowball("we," "us") collects when you use this site. We're a small indie site running daily car-price guessing games. We're not an ad or data business, and we don't sell your information to anyone.
You can play without signing up. The first time you finish a rated game, we set a cookie ("go_player") holding a random ID, so we can keep your guesses, results and skill rating together. It isn't used for anything else, and it isn't shared. Your rating appears on the public leaderboard under a generated name like "Guest 48213".
We store your email address, the leaderboard name you choose, and your password (only as a secure hash, never the password itself). If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address from Google; we don't get your Google password. Anything you played as a guest in the same browser is moved to your account when you sign up or log in.
For the daily games and Higher or Lower, we store each guess, its result and your rating changes, so your games work on every device and the leaderboard is fair. Your leaderboard name, rating and number of games played are public. Past days you play from the archive are kept only in your own browser and are never sent to us, except that we count finished games anonymously (see below).
When you finish a game, including a past day from the archive, your browser sends a one-line count to us: which kind of game, the score, and a random ID stored only in your browser. It isn't linked to your account or your rating. We use it to understand whether people come back the next day. Clearing this site's storage in your browser resets the ID.
Car photos, descriptions and sale prices come from publicly listed, already-finished auctions on Bring a Trailer. We aren't affiliated with Bring a Trailer.
We use Google Analytics to understand overall traffic (for example, which games are popular). It isn't used for advertising, and we don't sell or share data with ad networks.
You can delete your account from Settings. That removes your email, leaderboard name, password, rating and game history, and takes you off the leaderboard. To clear guest data, delete this site's cookies in your browser.
This site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
