What stands out

The sticker trap

The game shows each car's original sticker price. When a car sold for more than twice its sticker, people guessed close to the sticker: on those 4 cars the crowd's guess came to 37% of the real price. A 2001 BMW M5 sold for $175,000, and the crowd guessed $45,000.

Cheap cars

Under $10,000, people guessed too high. On a typical car the crowd's guess was 36% over. A 1987 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Z51 4-Speed sold for $7,250, and the crowd guessed $18,000.

The wisdom of the crowd

One guess was typically off by 36%. The crowd's guess was typically off by 27%, and it landed within 10% of the real price on 21% of cars.

Can people spot a good deal?

In Steal or Bad Deal, another game on this site, players see a real used car and what it sold for, then call it a steal or a bad deal.

Everything looks like a steal

People called 53% of the cars a steal. 46% were.

Practice barely helps

59% of a player's first five calls were right, and 61% of their calls after 25.

In Guess the Price, 16% of guesses landed within 10% of what the car sold for, and about 1 in 4 was off by double or half.

How this works

Every dot is a real used car sale from Bring a Trailer. Players of Guess the Price, a daily game on this site, see each car's photos, mileage and original sticker price, then guess what it sold for. The crowd's guess is the median of every guess on a car: half guessed higher, half lower.

These cars were played from Oct 4, 2026 to Oct 23, 2026. New cars join three days after they're played, and the page updates every day. Guesses from players caught looking up prices are left out.

In Steal or Bad Deal, each car is checked against similar cars sold on Bring a Trailer: the same model, within three model years. A car that sold for less than the middle price of those sales was a steal, and at or over it, a bad deal. Calls are counted from Oct 10, 2026, when the game started judging calls this way.
